Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Lamothe announced today that the Cap Haitien International Airport will be ready by February 2013. Work on the airport will be carried out with assistance from Cuba and Venezuela, at a cost of  $33 million. After thanking all the participants in today’s meeting, especially the Cuban Ambassador, the representative of the tripartite Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti collaboration, and Minister of Planning and Foreign Cooperation, Jude Hervé Day, Minister Lamothe said:

“Today we had a very important meeting where we talked about the collaboration between Cuba and Haiti, especially in terms of technical assistance… we will try to assist the country’s development through its airports. Venezuela, through a tripartite Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti collaboration, will help us to rebuild the airport in Cap Haitien. Today we checked the calendar, and the airport will be ready in February 2013. We looked at the various parameters to see how we, the Haitian government, can help to move this work forward as rapidly as possible. “

“In addition, we signed three collaboration agreements with Cuba…. We were promised technical assistance for the international airport, and they will help us with all the safety measures and air navigation. We are very pleased, and we consider this another victory for the people.”

“They also presented a study that they conducted of all the other airports in the country. We will examine this study…. The president has pledged to rebuild the airports of Port-de-Paix, Hinche and Jérémie.”

Before concluding, the Foreign Minister again thanked the two countries in charge of  reconstructing the airport.

“I would like to thank them once again, to thank the Cuban government and the Venezuelan government for the efforts they are making for Haiti.  We appreciate this enormously and say that our collaboration is just beginning. They may count on the new Haitian government. If problems come up, we will be there to help solve them.”

Aujourd’hui le Ministre des Affaires Étrangères et des Cultes, Laurent Lamothe a annoncé que l’Aéroport International du Cap Haïtien sera prêt en février 2013.  Les travaux sont réalisés avec l’assistance de Cuba et du Venezuela pour un coût de 33 millions de dollars. Après avoir remercié l’ensemble des participants de la réunion qui s’est tenue aujourd’hui et plus particulièrement l’Ambassadeur de Cuba, le représentant de la coopération tripartite Venezuela-Cuba-Haïti, et le Ministre de la Planification et de la coopération externe, Jude Hervé Day, le Ministre Lamothe a déclaré :

« Aujourd’hui nous avons eu une rencontre très importante où nous avons parlé de la coopération entre Cuba et Haïti, surtout au niveau de l’assistance technique, […] nous allons essayer de faire le développement du pays à travers des aéroports. Le Venezuela à travers la coopération tripartite Venezuela-Cuba-Haïti vont nous aider à la reconstruction l’aéroport du Cap Haïtien, donc aujourd’hui nous avons regardé le calendrier et l’aéroport sera prêt en février 2013, nous avons regardé les différents paramètres pour voir comment, nous-même le gouvernement haïtien, nous pouvons les aider à avancer le plus que possible dans ce travail. »

« Ensuite nous avons trois accords de coopération que nous avons signé avec Cuba […] ils nous ont promis une assistance technique pour l’aéroport international, ils vont nous aider avec toutes les mesures de sécurité et de navigation aérienne. Nous sommes très contents et nous pensons que c’est une autre victoire pour le peuple. »

Avant de conclure le Ministre des Affaires Étrangères a de nouveau remercié les deux pays en charge de la reconstruction de l’aéroport

« J’aimerais les remercier encore une fois, remercier le gouvernement cubain et le gouvernement vénézuélien des efforts qu’ils font pour Haïti, nous les apprécions énormément et nous leurs disons que la collaboration ne fait que commencer, qu’ils peuvent compter sur le nouveau gouvernement haïtien, que s’il y a des problèmes nous serons là pour aider à les solutionner…»
