Yesterday, October 1, 2012, the Federal Court of Mar del Plata handed out convictions to 14 retired Argentine military and police officers, six of which were life sentences for crimes against humanity during the last dictatorship.

The former soldiers took part in a repressive operation which was situated in Necochea close to Mar del Plata.

Judges Alfredo Ruiz, Lidia Soto, Elvio Osores Soler and Daniel Cisneros found the men guilty of

“aggravated homicide, illegal breach of human rights and political persecution”.

Eight other retired officials were also given convictions, including retired colonel Valentin Fortunato Rezzet, who received a 25 year sentence.

However, former police inspector Marcelino Blaustein and former deputy Aldo Jose Sagaste were both acquitted, sparking outrage amongst human rights organizations.

The Secretary for National Human Rights in Argentina, Martin Freseneda, called it “ridiculous” and announced his intention to appeal the judgement.

El Tribunal Oral Federal de Mar del Plata condenó a Alfredo Manuel Arrillaga, Leandro Edgar Marquiegui, Eduardo Jorge Blanco, Jorge Luis Toccalino, Ernesto Alejandro Agustoni y José Carmen Beccio.

BUENOS AIRES — El Tribunal Oral Federal de Mar del Plata condenó a Alfredo Manuel Arrillaga, Leandro Edgar Marquiegui, Eduardo Jorge Blanco, Jorge Luis Toccalino, Ernesto Alejandro Agustoni y José Carmen Beccio.

Fue a la pena de prisión perpetua en el juicio oral que se realizó en esa ciudad por delitos de lesa humanidad cometidos durante el último gobierno militar, consignó el Centro de Información Judicial (CIJ). Los jueces Alfredo Ruíz Paz, Lidia Soto y Elvio Osores Soler además impusieron las condenas de 25 años de prisión para Fortunato Valentín Rezett, 12 para Ernesto Orosco, 7 para Héctor Francisco Bicarelli, 5 para Héctor Carlos Cerutti, Mario Jorge Larrea y Nicolás Miguel Cafarello. En tanto que resultaron absueltos Aldo José Sagasti y Marcelino Blaustein.

El tribunal, además resolvió por mayoría revocar las prisiones domiciliarias oportunamente concedidas a Arrillaga, Marquiegui, Blanco, Toccalino, Agustoni, Beccio, Rezett, Orosco y Cerutti. Disponiendo sus traslados a establecimientos dependientes del Servicio Penitenciario Federal en el que se asegure la atención médica que requirieran dichos imputados.

En el proceso se investigaron delitos cometidos en perjuicio de 85 víctimas ocurridos en la Comisaría Cuarta de la ciudad de Mar del Plata y el Centro Clandestino de Detención La Cueva (ex radar Base Aérea Mar del Plata), así como también en la Comisaría Primera y en la Subcomisaría Villa Díaz Vélez de Necochea, completó el CIJ.
